Session V: PR for Non-Profits: Doing Good and Doing Well
Although non-profits employ 1 in 10 U.S. workers and contribute nearly $900 billion annually to the economy, PR has historically often been an afterthought. Increasingly, however, non-profits are recognizing the importance of PR and related disciplines for two imperatives: helping attract clients who can benefit from services, and, helping non-profits themselves to survive and thrive. Participants learned about five key dimensions of effective PR in the non-profit sector, broke into small groups to apply those five dimensions to actual case studies, and then discussed them with the group as a whole.
Instructor Lucas Bernays Held has led communications at three non-profits including Connecticut College, Barnard College of Columbia University, and The Wallace Foundation, where he is currently director of communications. He regularly speaks on communications and related topics.
