How Communicators Can Help Stem the Alarming Rise of Antisemitism
Dubbed “the world’s oldest hatred,” antisemitism has existed in language, image, and deed for over two millennia. In the U.S., while antisemitism has increased in the last decade—and more dramatically following the October 7 attacks—social media, contentious politics, conspiracy theorists, terrorist groups, and self-styled militia have ramped up antisemitic rhetoric and tropes.
Today’s rhetoric is disturbingly reminiscent of the antisemitism of pre-WWII through the late 1940s. Yet this "language of hate" might be stemmed if we better understood the history and hidden meanings behind the tropes we hear today. This event will provide communicators the tools to do so.
ABOUT THE "LANGUAGE OF HATE" SERIES
The PRMuseum plans to investigate how communication has been used throughout history and is used today to instigate acts of hatred and how communicators might effectively respond. Upcoming programs include Xenophobia: Fear of the “Other” (Islamophobia, Asian Hate, Racism); Weaponized Language: When Words Become Triggers of Divisiveness; What to Do When the Public Square Becomes A Battleground; and Transphobia: the Growing Fault Line in Sexual Politics. We believe that the "Language of Hate" series is the first-ever in the PR industry.
